Sony Xperia Z Ultra Getting Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA

As you’ve probably guessed, the Android 4.4.2 update is being rolled out for the international variant of the Xperia Z Ultra, but it seems that, for the moment, only the users in Hong Kong will be able to download and install the new firmware. Of course, the Xperia Z Ultra Android 4.4.2 update will also be rolled out in other countries, but we don’t know yet when that will happen.

Even though it’s rolled out only in Hong Kong, not all the Hong Kong-based Xperia Z Ultra owners will be able to download it right away, as we are dealing with a staged roll out. Usually, when a new software update is ready for your device you receive a notification to let you know, but sometimes the new firmwares can onlybe found after a manual check. In order to perform a manual check you must navigate to Settings > About Phone > System updates > Check now.

Besides the usual KitKat goodies like white status bar iconography, transparent status and navigation bars, WiFi and cloud printing, full screen album art in the lock screen, the new immersive mode, or emoji support, the Android 4.4.2 update for Sony Xperia Z Ultra also brings performance improvements, faster multi-tasking, and updates for Sony’s pre-loaded apps.

As a refresher, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports a massive 6.4-inch Triluminos display with full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution, resulting in a pixel density of 342 ppi. The phablet is underpinned by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and quad-core Adreno 330 GPU, has 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and support for microSD cards of up to 64 GB. The camera mounted on the back of the Z Ultra has an 8 MP sensor and, unfortunately, doesn’t feature a LED flash. The handset is both water and dust proof and is powered by a 3,050 mAh battery.
