As predicted, the news wasn’t for the UK alone. Here in the US Microsoft has gone ahead and revealed a full Titanfall bundle for $500. The bundle includes the Xbox One, the Xbox One’s hottest game, the Kinect (yep, that’s still in there), a controller, and one month of Xbox Gold.
Microsoft has today announced that in the UK its Xbox One console is set to get a permanent price drop to £399.99, £30 (US$50) cheaper than the launch price. If that wasn’t enough good news, the decision has also been taken to include a copy of Titanfall for free with the machine.
The price drop and new bundle is expected to be offered from this Friday, February 28. For now, it has only been confirmed as happening in the UK, with Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle stating “the time is right” to do this, and that Titanfall is triggering it. He also made it clear this isn’t a limited time offer, this is the new price point of the Xbox One.
The inclusion of Titanfall is a clever move, and one that can be done for minimal extra loss. The Xbox One still doesn’t match the PS4 on price, but now includes a game. That’s instantly better value. However, Sony surely has room to maneuver and could retaliate with its own gaming bundle or even a price cut. A bundle seems more likely, though, as they still have a cost advantage.
