Gmail for iOS has been updated to version 3.0, adding background refresh to make viewing your email faster. While Gmail already utilizes push notifications, users have previously needed to wait for the app to refresh and load new messages when opening it. Now, the app will fetch new messages in the background, as long as you're using iOS 7 and one type of notification (badge, banner, or alert) is switched on.
The app also supports Google's simplified sign-on system that allows you to tap your Google account to sign into an app if you are signed into other Google apps on your device.
You can download Gmail 3.0 from the App Store now.
